About Harnett County
Harnett County is part of the 13-County Research Triangle Region of North Carolina. It sits just one hour south of Raleigh-Durham International Airport and the Research Triangle Park, and just minutes north of Fort Bragg—the nation's largest U.S. Army installation.
Because of its location, Harnett County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of North Carolina having ballooned to more than 119,000 people. Even with such growth, Harnett County remains true to its roots as a rural county dominated by agriculture and industry. With that said, there is a clear transition occurring. More and more suburban style subdivisions are popping up. Large medical complexes are expanding their footprints, Campbell University has blossomed to more than 9,400 students, and the relatively new, and quite large, county government complex is a testament to recent growth.
